Panel Discussion I – Critical Infrastructure for Somali Productive Sectors: Building a Stronger Foundation

  1. Content: An interactive discussion focusing on critical both physical (e.g., irrigation systems, storage facilities, transportation networks) and quality infrastructure needs within the agricultural value chain, including effective regulatory frameworks for agri-inputs quality, product quality, seed inspection and certification standards. Experts will explore investment opportunities for public-private partnerships to address these needs and improve overall efficiency of the value chains.
  2. The discussion will also touch on role of government in creating and maintaining enabling business environment to promote investment, including fast tracked business registration and licensing processes, tax incentives for import of agricultural input and export of output.

Content & Focus: Facilitating policy dialogue on Private Sector, Trade and Investment in Somalia. As part of this, it is expected to explore national policy and legal frameworks for business environment and investment climate, and strategic Somalia’s priorities in this area. It will also cover ongoing and future effort in shaping Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) as an avenue of developing local private sector’s competitiveness through joint ventures with international firms to promote both foreign direct investment and market access.
